Alisa Toninato
Wisconsin born artist, Alisa Toninato, is a metal sculptor and pattern maker residing in Madison WI. A 2005 graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, her credits include an internship with Chicago public artist Jin Soo Kim & experience as a thematic sculptor with the design & fabrication firm Cost of Wisconsin building zoo & aquarium habitats.
A residency at Franconia Sculpture Park in MN constructing a large kinetic sculpture depicting the Myth of Sisyphus reconnected her with cast iron art. Thereafter, Alisa built her own iron foundry studio in Milwaukee. A mentorship with the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network spawned new directions for her cast iron sculptures, including the iconic state pan series.
Alisa has showed at the Kohler Arts Center, Harley Davidson Museum, Brook Stevens Gallery, Soo Vac Gallery, Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham Alabama, AFA Gallery in Scranton, PA, and the SUNY Cortland Show in New York.
Her full map consisting of 48 contiguous state-skillets of America was part of the 2011 ArtPrize exhibition in Grand Rapids Michigan, and made it into the top 25 among artists in the Center City neighborhood.
