Making an appearance with the Midwest in mind

This coming Saturday, February 18th 2012, FeLion Studios is going to be showing and selling a selection of recently cast iron skillets from the big “Made In America” skillet map. This first – time indie craft show, called Ritz Crafters, will host a curated array of amazing makers from all over the Midwest. Come find me, say “hi there”, and meet some new folks here in Madison Wisconsin, at the High Noon Saloon this weekend !

On top of this, MORE love is being shown in the form of ONE TON of iron from Madison’s best scrap yard, All Metals Recycling, and is set to melt amongst the merry making of attendees to this even.

A sure popular favorite will include the newest Amber beer by Madison’s own House of Brews, local beats from DJ Lizzy, beautifully designed FeLion event tee-shirts printed and available by Madison’s Jabberwocky Superfly Group, and a whole lot of spectators filling Sector 67 and hopefully getting in on the sand mould scratching to make their very own iron Valentine to be poured this day !

For $30 a mould, you get 2 hearts to go wild on, and then watch them get filled with molten metal the day of the pour. To give you more time to work on these, pre-sale Valentine’s hearts are available NOW through February 10th, for a mere $20 a mould. Contact Alisa for reservations and inquiries about getting in of the action. Heart moulds purchased the day of will be back to $30 .

Cupolette !

Check out our little trash-can..err …. Cupolette Furnace ! It’s a “slam-dunk” style blast furnace, but oh-so charismatic.  We’re now at the point of a working lid and beautiful lever arm to open it. All the functions of the furnace are nearly finished besides the tuyere’s- coming soon !   The maiden run is slated for FEBRUARY 11th, 2012 here in Madison, WI. A furnace in the making

We are about half way through our new cupolette construction for the official FeLion Studios iron melting furnace!  It has a lot of changes to undergo yet, but thought it would feel good to post some glam-shots pre-completion.  So far, its been a whole lot of learning, but ultimately feeling like a proud parent should of such a cute little thing.  More pictures to follow when its up and running this February !
