TAKE HOME “DIY” SAND MOLDS

STEP 1

BUY YOUR SAND MOLD AT GLITTER WORKSHOP

  • Take home sand molds are available for purchase inside Garver Feed Mill at the GLITTER WORKSHOP store during posted business hours Thursday-Sunday.

  • Last chance to buy one is SUNDAY, February 9, 2025 at 6pm,

  • $60 / mold

  • (4) mold options - Square - Tessellation - Hexagon - Hearts

  • Pay onsite at Glitter Workshop. Take your sand mold “scratch tile” home to work on at your leisure!

  • Mold shape designs are subject to availability upon arrival at Glitter Workshop.

  • RETURN Sand molds to the same cart at Glitter Workshop before 10pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 to be included in necessary prep before the iron pour event.

STEP 2

CARVE YOUR SAND MOLD AT HOME!

  • Check out our TIPS + TRICKS page for some critical mold carving info before you start!

  • Use a graphite pencil to draw your design directly onto the sand mold. You can design outside of the embossed shaped but leave 1 inch of untouched sand space between your design and the edge of the sand mold itself.

  • If your design involves words or letters, write each letter and the direction of the word BACKWARDS (right to left). Everything is mirror opposite in a mold!

  • Use any metal object such as a nail, spoon or rotary tools with a carbide bit to carve your design directly into the sand mold. WEAR N95 respirators and safety glasses to protect from sand grains and dust!

  • PHOTOGRAPH YOUR FINISHED MOLD BEFORE RETURNING IT! This identifies that the iron casting belongs to you after the event.

STEP 3

PHOTOGRAPH & RETURN YOUR FINISHED SAND MOLD

  • TAKE A PHOTO of your mold before final drop off. Photos are used to verify that it’s your casting at pickup after the event!

  • RETURN SAND MOLDS to the same cart you picked it up from at Glitter Workshop before 10pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. We prep everyone’s mold on Thursday morning before the iron pour event.

STEP 4

PICK UP YOUR IRON CASTING!

February, 22 - March 2, 2025

(Exact location inside Garver Feed Mill, still TBD)

  • ALL finished iron castings made at PYHO 2025 will be available for pickup inside of GARVER FEED MILL starting Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2pm.

  • Please be sure to have a photo ready of the sand mold or clay sculpture that you created, to help identify your casting.

  • Last weekend to pickup is March 2, 2025. After this date, all remaining castings will be available for pickup at FeLion Studios LLC, in Waunakee, WI, by appointment only.
